According to officials, the Uttar Pradesh Real Estate Regulatory Authority (UP-RERA) will train new as well as existing real estate agents across the state and will provide them certificates, a move that will bring transparency and answerability to the work of agents and help boost their credibility in the sector, officials said. They said that the training and certification have also been made mandatory by the Authority for new agents seeking RERA registration.

New agents seeking RERA registration are required to after training and obtain a certificate as part of the mandatory process. This condition is applicable for already registered RERA agents and they have been given one year time to acquire training and obtain a certificate else their RERA registration will be cancelled.

NEW DELHI: The Uttar Pradesh Real Estate Regulatory Authority (UP-RERA) in New Delhi is launching a training and certification program designed for real estate agents.

Now onwards, it is compulsory for new agents seeking RERA registration to acquire a certificate following their training. This condition is applicable for already registered RERA agents and they have been given one year time to acquire training and obtain a certificate else their RERA registration will be cancelled.

According to officials, UPRERA will start a special training and certification program for agents where they will be taught the provisions of the RERA Act and UPRERA rules. In the training session, the Authority will make them understand the structure of the regulatory authority and sensitize them about the work model and interests of homebuyers. The first set of certification courses will start in April 2024 in Lucknow.  In the initial phase, real estate agents registered on the portal and based in Lucknow are urged to promptly enroll. After enrolment, more details about the training program will be provided.

The UPRERA will conduct a one-day training program wherein agents will be instructed on various aspects including the RERA Act 2016, its provisions and compliance, UPRERA Rules 2016, regulations, directives issued by the Authority, as well as the roles and responsibilities of stakeholders. Additionally, relevant laws facilitating real estate transactions with homebuyers and promoters will be covered. An examination will take place on the fourth day, and upon assessment, certificates will be provided to the agents," the Authority said.

Sanjay Bhoosreddy, chairman, of UP-RERA said that agents in the real estate sector are working without any training and certification. This situation poses a threat to the sector's well-being, and on some occasions, we have observed its detrimental effects during hearings. Currently, there are over 6,700 registered agents, emphasizing the crucial need for their training and certification to instill transparency and credibility in the real estate sector.

The goals of this initiative will manifest in increased awareness regarding the provisions of the RERA Act and UP-RERA rules, enhancing understanding of regulatory structures, and sensitizing participants to the operational model. Furthermore, this program will foster transparency and accountability in the practices of agents, thereby enhancing their credibility within the real estate sector.
